Manchester United's Jesse Lingard explains secret behind reacting to Champions League mistake

Jesse Lingard admitted he had to "work hard" to overcome his mistake in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Lingard entered the field as a substitute against Young Boys in midweek, but gifted the Swiss side their winner in the latter stages of the match when playing a sloppy pass back to David de Gea, which ultimately cost United a point.

However, Lingard immediately redeemed himself on Sunday when providing United with a match-winner against West Ham.

The academy graduate cut in from the left before expertly finding the top-right corner past a helpless Lukasz Fabianski.

It was a goal worthy of winning any game and Lingard was "over the moon" to score it.

"I got a brilliant reception when I came on," Lingard told Sky Sports.

"I had a good time at West Ham, but I’ve got to move on with Manchester United and do my best for Manchester United.

"I’ve been working hard, to overcome last week wasn’t easy, but to get some minutes today and to score was unreal.

"Mistakes happen in football, we need to overcome those things. Things happen and you need to bounce back."
