Manchester United's injury list as Edinson Cavani update given ahead of Leeds United clash

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful of having Edinson Cavani available for selection when Manchester United face Leeds United on Sunday.

The Whites renew their rivalry with Man United in the Premier League on Sunday in what is sure to be an eagerly-anticipated clash.

Both sides go into the game on the back of wins, with Leeds recording a big victory over Newcastle United and the Red Devils holding on for a 3-2 win over Sheffield United in midweek.

For Man United, the build-up to the game could be overshadowed by whether Cavani is available to feature.

The Uruguayan forward has missed his club's last three games after being forced off at half-time in December 5's win over West Ham.

He has since returned to training but faces an FA misconduct charge over an Instagram post in which he called a friend 'negrito'.

Solskjaer told the MEN that Cavani has explained their was nothing malicious behind the post as they await to see whether he will be banned.

"We’ve spoken to Edinson about it," Solskjaer said. "He’s apologised. We know it wasn’t meant in a malicious way. He’s explained there are cultural and linguistic differences. He’s apologised, he hopes his mistake isn’t going to be costly and he’s still working on fitness.

"He’s very meticulous in his rehab work and has not felt right. He couldn’t play this game so let’s see how he feels in the last training session. It’s a muscle injury that he felt in his groin."

Solskjaer was unable to name a centre-back on his subs' bench for the victory over Sheffield United due to injuries to Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe.

Yet the Man United boss is confident that both will be available for selection against the Whites.

"Eric and Axel have had had small injuries but they’re available for us for Leeds, I hope," Solskjaer added. "Let’s see what we do."
