Manchester United's glacial transfer strategy criticised after taking 'a year' to sign star

Atalanta president Antonion Percassi has slammed Manchester United for taking just under a year to sign Amad Diallo.

The winger joined United on a deadline day deal that could rise to £37m despite being just 18 years of age.

He's set to join the English Premier League giants in January while his work permit is organised in the meantime and will challenge for a place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first-team.

Yet the Serie A club have slammed the way Old Trafford chief Ed Woodward went about negotiations amid criticism over their transfer strategy after failing to sign top target Jadon Sancho.

Percassi said: "The negotiations lasted almost a year and you can feel how they [Manchester United] work, how they manage enormous dimensions."

United did however sign left-back Alex Telles and striker Edinson Cavani on deadline day. They also secured Uruguayan youngster Facundo Pellistri from Montevideo side Penarol and denied a loan return.

Penarol chief Rodolfo Cantino said: "We tried in every way but they argued that they wanted the player now. It's normal, when a European club buy a player, they travel immediately."
