Manchester United's fastest players revealed - by Football Manager

Manchester United's summer signings have already made quite the impression in pre-season, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praising the speed of both Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James.

The United boss was asked by MUTV if he had seen anybody quicker than James to which he replied: “Maybe Aaron Wan-Bissaka!”

“The two of them do have top, top speed,” Solskjaer continued.

“Modern football is stop start, it is go again, speed, tempo, quality, so those two have put their maker down. Of course, with our boys, we have got some quick ones.”

As Solskjaer mentioned, United already had some very quick players before the arrival of the two British youngsters, so who are the fastest players at United now?

We used Football Manager 2019 to find out.

Manchester United's fastest players

On Football Manager 2019, speed is measured with two attributes, acceleration and pace.

Here are the descriptions for what the attributes mean:

Acceleration: How quickly a player can reach his maximum speed while starting to run.

Pace: How fast a player can run when he is at his maximum speed. Combined with a high rating for Acceleration, a player with high pace can be difficult to catch by an opponent. Bear in mind that a player can always run faster without the ball than with it.

So, the best way to measure the fastest player is a combination of both attributes.

Here are the fastest players at United, according to Football Manager 2019.

Joint 1st - Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford

Acceleration: 18

Pace: 17

2nd - Daniel James

Acceleration: 15

Pace: 18

Joint 3rd - Demetri Mitchell, Luke Shaw and Anthony Elanga

Acceleration: 16

Pace: 16

Joint 4th - Tahith Chong, Victor Lindelof, Largie Ramazani, Eric Bailly, Ethan Laird, Romelu Lukaku

Acceleration: 16

Pace: 15

Eric Bailly and Ethan Laird

Acceleration: 15

Pace: 16

Romelu Lukaku

Acceleration: 14

Pace: 17

Despite Aaron Wan-Bissaka's speed, he has 15 for acceleration and 15 for pace, he can't make this list!

Interestingly Lukaku's top speed can match Rashford and Martial's, but his acceleration is quite a bit lower.

According to Football Manager 2019, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are the fastest players at United, with Daniel James a close second, but the Welsh forward does have the highest top speed of any United player.
