Manchester United's FA Cup third-round fixture against Aston Villa chosen for TV

Manchester United's match at Old Trafford versus Aston Villa in the FA Cup will be broadcast live on terrestrial TV.

United drew Villa in the third round of the FA Cup and the fixture will be shown for free on BBC and BBC iPlayer.

The game will be played on Monday, January 10 as United look to win the competition for the first time since 2016.

United slumped out of the Carabao Cup under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in September, so winning the FA Cup or the Champions League seem the only realistic avenues for silverware this season with the club now 11 points adrift from the Premier League leaders.

Ralf Rangnick won his first game as interim manager of the club last weekend when beating Crystal Palace before drawing against BSC Young Boys on Wednesday night, but United now have reasonable fixtures ahead across the hectic festive period.

United will play Norwich, Brentford, Brighton, Newcastle, Burnley and Wolves prior to their FA Cup clash with Villa.

Jose Mourinho was the last manager to win a trophy at United in 2017 and Rangnick will be hoping to end that barren spell.
