Manchester United's Europa League game to be played behind closed doors as Rangers are left waiting on Leverkusen call

Manchester United will play their last-16 Europa League first leg tie against Lask Linz behind closed doors because of the coronavirus.

The game, set to take place in the Linzer Stadion, Austria, will now be played in front of no fans as the outbreak continues.

There have been fears regarding Rangers' away match against Bayer Leverkusen over the possibility of the match also prohibiting fans from attending - but it's unlikely to be decided until after Thursday's first leg.

A statement from Lask Linz said: "LASK has announced that the home game scheduled for Thursday (6.55 p.m.) against Man United must take place without a spectator. The association will provide further information after publication of the relevant decree."

Lask, after talks with UEFA , decided to make the decision to prohibit all fans from entering the ground in a move that follows other games in the tournament.

The spread of the virus has already seen several games across Europe being cancelled already this week with PSG v Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona v Napoli and Bayern Munich v Chelsea all being played behind closed doors.

In Spain all football games domestically will be played behind closed doors, while Italian football has been suspended until April 3.
