Manchester United's Dean Henderson backed for England call up by Sheffield United teammate

Manchester United's Dean Henderson has been backed for an England call-up by his goalkeeping colleague at Sheffield United Simon Moore, who labelled him as a 'fantastic' shot stopper.

After a drawn out process and making his desire to return to South Yorkshire abundantly clear, Henderson finally got his wish and left United for Sheffield on loan for the duration of the season.

The 22-year-old played a vital role in the Blades' march to the Premier League last season, as they earned automatic promotion after finishing second in the Championship behind Norwich City.

Henderson has picked up where he left off last season. He has quickly reestablished himself as a huge presence at Bramall Lane and has already got a clean sheet to his name in the 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

He was rested for Sheffield United's Carabao Cup victory over Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night and his deputy Moore sang his praises after the match and reckons a call-up to Gareth Southgate's England side is on the horizon.

"I haven't played a lot of football over the last year or so, it's been very difficult to get any sort of rhythm going," Moore told the Sheffield Star after the game.

"As a goalkeeper you want to be playing week in, week out, but I've got a young English goalkeeper, who's on the verge of a senior call-up, in front of me, so my job's a little bit difficult.

"Deano's a fantastic goalkeeper, who's only going to get better and better and I've just got to make sure I push him day in, day out.

"But I'm also there for him as well. If he needs any advice or help then I'm there to support him because ultimately we want the best for this football club."
