Manchester United's David de Gea reveals what he was thinking before West Ham penalty save

Manchester United's David de Gea has admitted he thought it was Declan Rice that would take West Ham's penalty on Sunday.

United thought they had won the game against David Moyes' side at the London Stadium when Jesse Lingard found the back of the net in superb style with just two minutes to play, however, there would be yet another twist before the final whistle.

Deep into stoppage time, Luke Shaw was deemed to handle the ball and West Ham were handed a late, dramatic penalty.

Mark Noble then stepped up to take the penalty, despite having just entered the field and without kicking the ball.

De Gea then saved Noble's penalty, his first penalty Premier League penalty save since October 2014.

The Spanish stopper was elated when United secured the three points and was asked about the heroic save.

"I saw Rice with the ball, I was expecting him to take the penalty then I saw Noble with the ball,” De Gea told Sky Sports.

"It was the last minute of the game with the save. It’s a massive three points for us.

"Save the ball, save the penalty [going through his mind], help the team to win, It’s always difficult to play here against West Ham."
