Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo reveals date and plan for retirement after FIFA award

Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo wants to play football for another 'four or five years'.

Ronaldo, 36, completed a sensational return to United on deadline day and he's since been in excellent form in front of goal.

The forward has 14 goals in 22 appearances this season and some of those goals have been scored in important moments in Champions League matches, like his injury-time strikes against Villarreal at Old Trafford and Atalanta in Bergamo, for example.

While Ronaldo is in the autumn of his career, he's silenced the critics that doubted his ability to still operate at an elite level this term, however, FIFA awarded Ronaldo the 'special achievement' accolade on Monday and he was asked about his retirement.

Ronaldo opened up on his journey in football and admitted he hopes to play for at least another four years.

“Without sacrifice, you can’t achieve anything," Ronaldo told FIFA.

"I started to play at the top level when I was 18 and I’ve been at the top for 15, 16 years.

"It’s down to my dedication, my passion, my ambition and working hard all the time. This is why I’ve continued to be at the top of the world in terms of performance, trophies, goals, records. I love the game. I still have that passion and I want to continue.

"People ask me sometimes how many more years I’m going to play and I say I hope to play another four, five years.

“It’s all mental because I think that if you treat your body [well], when you need your body it’s going to give it back.”
