Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo makes English football history with Champions League goal

Cristiano Ronaldo made English football history by scoring in Manchester United's 2-0 win over Villarreal.

Michael Carrick won his first game in charge of United as caretaker manager in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

United took the lead in the second half when Fred expertly won possession just outside of Villarreal's box, which Ronaldo duly capitalised on with a superb, lofted finish over Geronimo Rulli's head to break the deadlock with 15 minutes to play.

Jadon Sancho then doubled United's lead - his first goal at the club - to round off a brilliant individual performance.

United are now through to the Round of 16 of the Champions League, however, history was also made on Tuesday night.

That's because Ronaldo's goal made him the first-ever player to score in each of an English club's first five matches of a single European Cup/Champions League season [excluding qualifiers].

Ronaldo has 10 goals in 15 games this season and he's proved instrumental since his return to the club this summer.
