Manchester United's chances of sealing Harry Maguire transfer following £70million bid

Manchester City remain favourites to sign Leicester City defender Harry Maguire despite a £70m bid from rivals Manchester United.

United have submitted the huge offer for the centre back, despite reports they had dropped their interest last week.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is intent on strengthening his back-line this summer, but he isn't alone.

Manchester City are also said to be interested with Vincent Kompany departing and Nicolas Otamendi reportedly unsure where he wants to play next season.

And it's the Citizens who are favourites with bookmakers despite that reported bid from United. Sky Bet have Pep Guardiola's men at 4/5, just ahead of United, who are priced at 1/1.

Leicester's position over their star defender remains the same, according to LeicestershireLive - the Foxes won't sell him for any less than a world-record fee for a defender.

Maguire would almost certainly command a higher fee than the £75m Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk in January 2018.

Any successful bid for Maguire would have to exceed the van Dijk fee, and there are suggestions it could take as much as £100 million including add-ons.

Maguire himself would also have to indicate he wants to leave.

The defender is currently on holiday following international commitments with England in the summer and he is due to return for pre-season on Monday.
