Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes slams Italian newspaper on Instagram over Cristiano Ronaldo post

Bruno Fernandes criticised Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport for appearing to take his words about Manchester United out of context in order to criticise Cristiano Ronaldo, who left the club in November.

Ronaldo's contract at Old Trafford was terminated before the start of the World Cup in Qatar and United have won every game since the Al-Nassr player's last appearance for the Reds, with Erik ten Hag's side now on a nine-game winning run after beating Manchester City on Saturday.

United defeated City 2-1 in the Manchester derby thanks to goals from Fernandes and Marcus Rashford and the midfielder told BT Sport after that victory: "[We] used to be individuals, now we are a team. You can see a proper team that works for each other."

Once that interview aired, Fernandes took to social media to criticise those who suggested that particular comment was a criticism of Ronaldo, and he was active on Instagram again on Monday when responding to a post from La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The newspaper appeared to suggest Fernandes' comment was a criticism of Ronaldo by accompanying the quote with a picture of the pair during their time together at United, to which he responded: "Next time call someone who understands English well and then does the translation well!

"In the interview I said that we changed from the match with Liverpool (in August), maybe if I’m not mistaken I think Cristiano was still in Manchester, no? Do your job well and not just what comes into your head."
