Ashley Young may be available for Manchester United’s crucial Europa League last-16 second leg against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Thursday after training with the squad on Wednesday morning.

Young has not played for United since the 1-0 league victory at Liverpool on 17 January due to a serious groin injury. The winger required surgery and the manager, Louis van Gaal, stated he would be out for a “long time”.

Young, 30, may also be joined by Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, as he also trained. The 19-year-old full-back sustained a knock that has ruled him out since the FA Cup win at Shrewsbury Town on 22 February.

United trail Liverpool 2-0 from the first leg and know that if Jürgen Klopp’s side score an away goal they will have to score four times to progress.
