Manchester United reveal referee was wrong on goal decisions vs Sheffield United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed the match delegate for Manchester United's defeat to Sheffield United concluded the referee was wrong to let Kean Bryan's opening goal stand and disallow Anthony Martial's equaliser.

Bryan nodded in from a corner to give the bottom side the lead in the first-half but replays showed Billy Sharp nudged United goalkeeper David de Gea, beaten in the air by Bryan.

Later in the first half, Harry Maguire challenged Aaron Ramsdale at a corner and the Blades 'keeper fumbled the ball, which was swept in by Martial. However, referee Peter Bankes blew the whistle for an apparent foul by Maguire before Martial had rolled the ball in, which meant the Video Assistant Referee could not intervene.

"I don't like to bring these up - the momentum shifted for us with the Sheffield United game, of course it did," Solskjaer said. "But I've got the delegate's report from the referee and the two decisions were wrong. They've admitted their goal should have been disallowed and our goal should have stood.

"That's a big, big momentum changer for us. You're more likely to, when you go 1-0 up rather than 1-0 down, go on and win that game.

"So that's fine margins and it has been the way this season, fine margns. You hit the post, it goes in or it goes out, sometimes you're lucky with decisions, sometimes you're not.

"We've got to focus on this game and I'm sure the results and performances will come."

United have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the visit of Southampton on Tuesday night in what is the first of three consecutive home games.

Eric Bailly travelled to Arsenal at the weekend after missing the previous two games and could replace Victor Lindelof, who has not started successive league games since Boxing Day.

"Apart from the wear and tear and quick turnaround, everyone should be available," Solskjaer clarified. "They're not injured anyway, it's just a matter of energy levels and see how they feel tomorrow. No new fresh injuries anyway."
