Manchester United reveal Diogo Dalot and Donny van de Beek plans vs Brentford

Diogo Dalot and Donny van de Beek will both come off the bench for Manchester United against Brentford and make their first appearance of pre-season tonight.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Dalot is expected to come on at half-time, while Van de Beek will play the final half hour.

Both returned to full pre-season training this week and with minutes under their belt tonight they will likely start against Preston at Deepdale on Saturday.

“Diogo might be half time, Donny probably the last half an hour. Then probably starting against Preston," Solskjaer told MUTV.

While they are back on the bench it's a similar starting XI to the team that was beaten 4-2 at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday. Nine of the team that began that game also start here, with Juan Mata and Anthony Elanga in for Facundo Pellistri and Daniel James.

Solskjaer wants to see his side deliver a response after their disappointing defeat in West London.

“We need a response of course, a good experience, but it's still about minutes. Brentford is a new challenge, a Premier League team that will test our boys," he said.

"We're getting closer to the league and we need to see the confidence come in and the minutes under the belt.

“Suddenly it’s there [the start of the season], we don’t have time to lose now, we need to be sharp straight away, we’ve got the highest intensity game in the league in the first one so we need to be ready. UIn a sense that’s a good thing because the players know they need to be fit."

There will be 30,000 fans inside Old Trafford now and Solskjaer is delighted to see such significant numbers back inside the ground.

“It’s brilliant, just coming into the stadium and feeling the energy, it’s different. Hopefully, we’re getting towards the end of the tunnel now," he said.
