Manchester United reportedly enquire about availability of former Newcastle United forward

Manchester United have enquired about the possibility of signing Newcastle United flop Islam Slimani.

That is according to Mail Online, who claim Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been forced to turn to the Algerian international forward following Marcus Rashford's injury and Anthony Martial's stuttering form.

Manchester United have just seven days to find reinforcements up front but have been told by Leicester a loan move for the 31-year-old will cost them £4million.

Slimani joined Leicester for a club record fee back in 2016 but scored just eight goals in 35 Premier League appearances.

He made just four appearances and failed to score while on loan at Newcastle in 2018 and also had an understated loan spell at Fenerbahce as well.

The former Sporting Lisbon forward joined Monaco on loan this term and has scored seven goals in 14 appearances.

He has had to make do with a place on the bench in recent weeks, though, and the report claims Manchester United are monitoring whether he could become available to sign on a loan deal until the end of the season.
