Manchester United release new pre match training kit

Manchester United will return to 1990-92 with a new pre-match shirt released by Adidas and Humanrace.

The iconic 'snowflake' blue and white away kit was worn by United in the early 1990s, and has been a favourite of supporters ever since. Now the design is back as part of a new collection by Adidas and Humanrace, with Humanrace Creative Director and long-term adidas collaborator Pharrell Williams playing a key role in the design process.

Adidas describe the new jersey as a design "born out of the city’s famous house music scene of the late 80s." They say the new design uses a tye-dye affect to create a modern re-working of the iconic kit.

The kit features a red 'Humanrace' logo where the main sponsor would normally be, with a simplified version of the United badge, without any text. The Adidas logo is red, with blue, red and white stripes on the shoulder and collar.

Also in the collection, Arsenal, FC Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Real Madrid have also had kits designed along the same brief, using each side's past as a starting point of the design process. London grassroots team Romance FC, have also had a bespoke shirt created for them to play in this season.

Speaking about the collection, Pharrell said: “History is what shapes the future, and sometimes in order to look forwards, first we need to look back.

"The most important part of the process with this collection was to learn of each club’s legacies and how each defining moment of their histories were captured and preserved from a design perspective. Each of the new jerseys are symbols of the five club’s legacies and a true celebration of the universality of sport.”

United will wear the pre-match shirt from this weekend, when Chelsea visit Old Trafford in the Premier League. While United's, Arsenal's and Real Madrid's designs will only be worn before games, the Juventus and Bayern Munich shirts will be worn once in upcoming fixtures.

The shirts are available to purchase from today.
