Manchester United release Marcus Rashford injury update before Liverpool

Manchester United's Marcus Rashford is in a battle against time to be fit for Sunday's Premier League meeting with Liverpool.

The Reds travel to Old Trafford this weekend, but after only just returning from injury, the hosts could be without one of their star players.

Rashford was forced off with an injury in United's Champions League meeting in Atalanta, after scoring the first of three goals as they came from behind and clinch a 3-2 victory.

The England international was replaced by Edinson Cavani on 66 minutes, in what was Rashford's first start since the Europa League final back in May.

United's No.10 complained of a dead leg, but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'hopes' the striker will be fit for the visit from Liverpool.

“I don’t know. I hope so and I think so," he told United's club website.

“It was a dead leg and sometimes it can take longer than what you want. But if we treat it well, he should be okay.”

Rashford underwent surgery on his shoulder in August to fix an ongoing and persistent problem and he's only recently returned to full fitness.

Liverpool have some injury concerns of their own as Thiago is still sidelined with a calf injury that's seen him miss the last six games.

Manager Jurgen Klopp expects midfielder Curtis Jones to return for the United clash, however, after he missed Tuesday's Champions League match.

"Unfortunately, Curtis was only with us in the warming up and will be here in Liverpool to hopefully make the final steps to full training," Klopp said in his pre-Atletico Madrid press conference.

"Today he did only warming up and then did his stuff, but still individual training and we decided to leave him here to continue that. And then hopefully he is ready for United."
