Manchester United reject Sevilla Anthony Martial loan offer

Manchester United have rejected Sevilla's opening offer to sign Anthony Martial on loan until the end of the season.

The Manchester Evening News understands Sevilla offered to pay half of Martial's £150,000 weekly wages and United would only allow him to join a club that pays a loan fee and covers Martial's wages in full.

United have still not made a final decision on whether to let Martial go but the 26-year-old personally informed interim manager Ralf Rangnick of his intention to leave last week.

Martial was omitted from the United squad for their 1-1 Premier League draw at Newcastle and has only started in four games this season.

"Yes, we spoke I think it was yesterday (Wednesday), we spoke at length," Rangnick said. "He explained to me he’s been at Manchester United now for the last seven years and he feels it’s the right time for a change, to go somewhere else.

"I think in a way this is understandable, I could follow his thoughts but on the other hand, it’s also important to see the situation of the club. We have Covid times, we have three competitions in which we still have high ambitions and want to be as successful as we can be.

"I told him listen, as long as there is no club showing interest in him, and it should not only be in the interest of the player it should also be in the interest of the club.

"So far, as far as I know, there has been no offer from any other club and as long as this is the case he will stay."

United signed Martial from Monaco for a fee rising to £58million in 2015 but the France international has struggled in the last 15 months, scoring just eight club goals.
