Manchester United receive two injury boosts but duo ruled out ahead of Tottenham fixture

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that his side will be without Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones for Friday’s game against Tottenham.

United have been back at their Carrington training complex for a number of weeks now and have been stepping up the intensity ahead of their top-flight return on Friday night.

Solskjaer's side head to Spurs in their first game since the coronavirus outbreak brought football in England to a halt back in March.

Prior to football being suspended, United were 11 games unbeaten and sat just three points behind Chelsea, who currently occupy the final Champions League place in the Premier League.

And Solskjaer’s side will be able to call on Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford on Friday night, who are both back and available from long-term injuries.

"We have two players, it's Phil Jones and Axel will probably miss this game and the start," he told the MEN.

"Let's see how bad they are. Apart from that, the rest of the squad is fit and available.

"If selected, of course, Marcus and Paul have been out for a long, long period, but they're available. How long they're going to play for, let's see."

Before Solskjaer added on the new substitution rules: "It depends on the games, I think. .

"I think three subs is the right amount for a game and changing the whole five of them will probably happen because we have to look after players.

“They've been out for a long period, the Premier League is intense, it's hard physically and they've got to go straight into a season after as well.

"It's a good option for us to protect the players and make sure we don't get any unnecessary injuries, we have to look after them and take care of them, and make sure we use those periods to make substitutions well."
