Manchester United receive loan offers for Brandon Williams

Southampton are among the clubs to have enquired about the possibility of signing Manchester United left-back Brandon Williams on loan.

The MEN understands Southampton have registered their interest in Williams, 20, who is set to fall down the left-back pecking order as United prepare to unveil Alex Telles from Porto.

Williams signed a new four-year contract with United in August and his breakthrough last year initially convinced the club to cool their interest in signing a left-back amid interest in Ben Chilwell.

However, Williams was unconvincing in the absence of Luke Shaw towards the end of last season and United have moved for a more experienced option in the 27-year-old Telles.

Williams is right-footed and could be switched to right-back to compete with Aaron Wan-Bissaka now Diogo Dalot has left on loan, although Solskjaer started Timothy Fosu-Mensah in United's Premier League opener against Crystal Palace when Wan-Bissaka was not match-fit.

Dalot's season-long loan move to AC Milan has been offset by the promotion of right-back Ethan Laird and Williams would arguably get more playing time at Southampton.

Southampton signed right-back Kyle Walker-Peters from Tottenham in a permanent deal this summer and Ryan Bertrand is still their first-choice left-back.

Williams made his United debut on September 25 against Rochdale last year and started 25 times in his breakthrough campaign but has failed to make any of their three Premier League squads this term.
