Manchester United recall youngster Matej Kovar from loan

Manchester United have recalled goalkeeper Matej Kovar back from his loan-spell with Swindon Town.

The 20-year-old agreed a one-year loan deal back in the summer but has seen his time at the County Ground cut short at the League One side.

Kovar, who was experiencing his first loan-spell away from United, started brightly for Swindon but made just one clean sheet in his 20 appearances for the club.

The U23s goalkeeper will now return to Carrington while the club consider possibly sending him out on another Football League loan for the remainder of the season.

Swindon are looking to replace Kovar before the weekend with local reports suggesting Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers is expected to sign as a replacement for the Czech youngster.

Kovar has been a familiar face in first-team training sessions under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but is yet to make his senior debut for United despite shining at youth level, especially for the Under-23s during their promotion last season.

Earlier in the week former United youngster Will Keane explained loanees might be struggling away from the club because of the huge step-up in physicality and intensity.

“It’s tough," he told MEN Sport. "I think the style of play, with these lads coming up through the ranks and then getting in the reserve team, they’re used to that and it’s a very technical game.

"And it’s not men’s football, so when you have that first exposure, it probably is a bit of a wake-up call to a lot of players, really. It’s a different game."
