Manchester United 'reach Mateus Fernandes agreement amid Tottenham interest'

The Portugal youngster, who is currently representing his nation at the 2026 World Cup, is expected to leave the Hammers this summer following their relegation into the Championship.

West Ham signed the midfielder last summer from Southampton in a deal worth around £38million, and are said to want double that figure to sell 12 months later.

Man Utd are said to have made Fernandes a key summer target as manager Michael Carrick looks to revamp his midfield options.

Ederson has reportedly passed a medical ahead of completing a £38m move from Atlanta, and now United are moving ahead with a deal to sign 21-year-old Fernandes.

Tottenham are reportedly the strongest rivals to United for Fernandes, who earned plenty of plaudits last season amid West Ham’s woes.

Arsenal were said to also be monitoring the Portuguese midfielder, but interest is not expected to advance.

talkSPORT report that Fernandes has agreed personal terms with Man Utd ahead of a summer mover to Old Trafford.

United will now look to reach an agreement with West Ham.

Fernandes would become one of United’s marquee signings of the summer as they move into pole position to secure the signature of one of Europe’s most promising youngsters.

Spurs, though, are reportedly ahead of United in the race to sign Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali for a similar fee.

United had made Tonali a key summer target, but it is Spurs who are said to be the frontrunners to sign one of the Premier League’s most impressive midfielders.
