Manchester United put Old Trafford capacity increase on hold due to coronavirus

Manchester United have put on hold plans for a small increase in capacity at Old Trafford due to coronavirus.

The club were looking at ways to reconfigure areas of the famous stadium that would provide a ‘slight’ increase through additional seating.

But the Covid-19 pandemic has forced them to hold off those plans until the end of the next season due to lack of access to the ground.

United recently announced they would instal 1500 rail seats as part of a trial of safe standing from next season.

They are also still going ahead with major accessibility developments in the Stretford End, which are expected to be completed by the start of the new campaign.

United are also close to completing an £11m upgrade of state-of-the-art disabled facilities.

Executive vice chairman Ed Woodward told a recent fan forum: “Long-term, we remain committed to continued investment to modernise Old Trafford while maintaining its unique character, that is critically important to us.”
