Manchester United Pursuing Newcastle Sporting Director Dan Ashworth

Premier League - Manchester United v Leicester City

Manchester United are actively pursuing Newcastle United's sporting director, Dan Ashworth, as part of their football operations overhaul at Old Trafford. United are willing to pay compensation to secure Ashworth's services, but they are cautious about meeting excessive demands from Newcastle.

Ashworth, who has been placed on gardening leave by Newcastle after expressing his desire to join United, is a key target for the Red Devils. Newcastle, protected by Ashworth's contract, could demand a fee exceeding £10 million once an official approach is made.

Reports suggest that Newcastle may seek a total fee ranging from £15 million to £20 million for Ashworth's services. However, United, mindful of financial regulations, are looking to negotiate a lower compensation amount while Ashworth remains on gardening leave, potentially until February 2025.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has expressed hope for a swift resolution but voiced concerns about Ashworth potentially sharing valuable information with United. With United already planning for the summer under manager Erik ten Hag and football director John Murtough, Ashworth's influence on the upcoming transfer window is expected to be minimal.

United are also considering additional appointments to their recruitment department, with interests in Southampton's Jason Wilcox and Brighton's Sam Jewell. The pursuit of Ashworth marks a significant step in United's restructuring efforts, led by new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
