Manchester United provide Anthony Martial injury update ahead of Brentford friendly

Anthony Martial has returned to Manchester United training and is recovering well from a knee injury suffered towards the end of last season.

Martial missed the end of the 2020/21 campaign after injuring his knee on international duty for France in March. The striker has not featured in either of United's two pre-season friendlies so far, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed he will also miss the clash with Brentford on Wednesday.

Solskjaer is slowly welcoming back his United squad after their international tournament exertions this summer, with Diogo Dalot, Donny van de Beek and Bruno Fernandes all returning this week.

And the manager said more players are set to return in the coming days as he offered the latest update on Martial's recovery from injury.

"Yes, there will be more players coming," he told United's website. "Anthony Martial has also joined us, but he's not joined the team training yet. He's recovering from the knee injury and that looks good.

"The rest of them will drop in after their well-earned holidays because some of them needed them and they deserved them."

Alex Telles has been confirmed to be out with injury until September, but Dalot and Van De Beek are set to be named on the bench against Brentford. However, Fernandes and Dean Henderson will both not feature.
