Manchester United prospects given Alejandro Garnacho incentive

Erik ten Hag believes Alejandro Garnacho is an example to Manchester United's next generation of players that there is a pathway to the club's first team.

Garnacho has enjoyed a breakthrough season at United and has emerged as one of the game's brightest young prospects. The 18-year-old has featured regularly under ten Hag this season, scoring five goals in 32 games across all competitions so far and has just been called up to the senior Argentina squad for their summer Asia tour.

And his rise has been offered as proof to United prospects Dan Gore and Kobbie Mainoo, who have respectively received the Denzil Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year and the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year accolades for this season's efforts.

Ten Hag he hopes the awards handed to Mainoo and Gore will help spur them to succeed at Old Trafford in the manner of Garnacho.

"Yeah they did well [in first-team training]," he said. "They deserved it and that is always what has to be the case.

"Like Alejandro Garnacho, [who won the Jimmy Murphy award] last season, you see the path is open but they have to deserve their position.

"I hope this trophy will motivate them and stimulate them to bring more because that is necessary if you want to get a place in the first team, the first squad, of this club."
