Manchester United ‘prepare record bid’ for Goncalo Ramos and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are reportedly in talks with Benfica over bringing striker Goncalo Ramos to Old Trafford in a bid that could become a record fee.

The Portugal attacker netted a hat-trick for his country in the World Cup last-16 tie against Switzerland and has tallied goals for his club this season. He is one of the names on Erik ten Hag’s potential summer transfer wishlist.

United are in need of a centre-forward this summer with the club unlikely to make Wout Weghorst’s loan deal permanent while Anthony Martial could exit this summer. Harry Kane is Ten Hag’s primary target with just 12 months left on his Tottenham deal.

But the Mirror says that the club are keen for Ramos to join him at United too and are prepared to part with a record fee for the 21-year-old. It says a bid of up to £100m could be tabled, which would exceed Paul Pogba’s £89m move from Juventus in 2016.

However, that would blow a big hole in the summer budget ahead of a potential pursuit for Tottenham forward Harry Kane, who the Manchester Evening News understands is Erik ten Hag's top target. The United boss admitted last week that he is in the dark over what funds he will be given due to the uncertainty of the takeover process.

Meanwhile, it is being reported that Napoli are resigned to the fact that they will lose United-linked defender Kim Min-jae this summer. A report from 90min claims that the club are still hopeful of agreeing an extension with the South Korea star but would find €60m (£52m) hard to refuse if an offer came in.

United could be on the search for a new defender should one of their own leave with Harry Maguire set to be transfer listed and Victor Lindelof assessing his options next month. Min-jae’s contract is believed to have a release clause of £39m albeit is only active for the first two weeks of the window.

Min-jae played a pivotal role in Napoli’s Serie A title success, being arguably the division’s best defender this season. As a result, the likes of Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with potential interest too.
