Manchester United 'prepare opening bid' for Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff

Manchester United are reportedly preparing their opening bid for highly rated Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff as they look to secure their third signing of the summer.

United are targeting Longstaff as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to add a young British core to his squad this summer.

Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have already joined, and Longstaff could be next after emerging onto the scene this season with a series of accomplished performances at St James' Park.

Football Insider say United will start the bidding for Longstaff at £18million, hoping to get the central midfielder for less than the £25m Newcastle are said to be asking for him.

The report adds United are prepared to offer Longstaff a five-year contract worth £60,000 per week if he joins.

Meanwhile, United have reportedly revived their interest in Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

Spanish outlet Sport say United had a £35m offer rejected for the Croatia midfielder three weeks ago but are back in for him due to concerns Paul Pogba could leave.

Finally, The Sun claim to have revealed the reason for United's loss of interest in signing Inter Milan's Mauro Icardi.

It had been suggested that Inter might use Icardi as a makeweight in a player-plus-cash deal for United forward Romelu Lukaku, but the report says United are no longer interested in the Argentine striker due to his off-field problems.
