Manchester United prepare late Ousmane Dembele bid as Barcelona wait on phone call

Barcelona are expecting a late bid from Manchester United for Ousmane Dembele, according to a report.

The winger moved up United's wanted list after their bid to sign Jadon Sancho fell through.

And after their heavy 6-1 defeat to Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday, United will now step up their bid to sign Dembele from Barcelona.

ESPN say the Catalan giants are bracing themselves for a phone call early on Monday morning as they try to take him to Manchester before the deadline.

Dembele has struggled with injuries and form since his £100m move to Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer feels he can boost his side's poor start to the season.

United have struggled to get players in the door in this window and Edinson Cavani is also set to join, while left back Alex Telles has agreed a deal.

An initial loan move is expected for Dembele with United looking to add an option to buy him next summer if they can agree a deal before 11pm on Monday night.

Solskjaer had huge pressure piled on him after the 6-1 defeat, although the likes of Gary Neville and Patrice Evra both pointed to the lack of support from above for the loss.
