Solskjaer's men improved from their shoddy display at Everton against Man City in midweek but they were simply not good enough against their fierce rivals.
They now welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford with the clash going a long way to decide their top four hopes.
Nemanja Matic is likely to return to the United starting line-up after being dropped for the visit of City.

The Serbian midfielder is set to come in for Fred, while Scott McTominay is also in contention to return in place of Andreas Pereira.
Anthony Martial could also return for United, with Matteo Darmian dropping out and Solskjaer reverting to a back four.

“Of course we have analysed them and let’s just make sure we turn up on Sunday with the same attitude and a little bit more quality in front of goal.
“Hopefully we can get the win everyone here wants and the fans deserve, the players deserve.
“They have made a terrific effort to give us a chance with three games to go to be in the top four.”
