Manchester United players return amid Cristiano Ronaldo absence

Almost every Manchester United international player has reported back for pre-season training after their summer break.

Several internationals were on duty in Nations League matches, junior qualifiers and friendlies in June, which delayed their return by a week.

Players are entitled to a minimum three-week summer break after participating for their national team. Last week, Alejandro Garnacho returned 17 days after his final appearance for Argentina Under-20s in the Toulon Tournament.

Scott McTominay, James Garner, Fred, Alex Telles, Hannibal Mejbri, Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot. Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Facundo Pellistri, Eric Bailly and Anthony Elanga all reported for pre-season on Monday.

Cristiano Ronaldo has not turned up due to "family reasons" two days after it was reported he has asked to leave United.

United have accepted Ronaldo's explanation for his absence and remain adamant the 37-year-old is not for sale. United fly to Bangkok for the start of their pre-season tour on Friday and it is unclear whether Ronaldo will be available.

Ronaldo is under contract until next year and United have the option of an additional year. Ronaldo's future has been uncertain for several months due to United's failure to qualify for the Champions League, a competition he has played in in the last 19 seasons.

Transfer consultant Tom Keane also arrived at Carrington as United prepare to complete the signing of left-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.

Malacia arrived in Manchester on Sunday and completed the first part of his medical at Carrington. The 22-year-old has returned to the training complex this morning for a second round of medical checks in order to complete his move.
