Manchester United players and staff have arrived at their training complex for their first session at Carrington in over two months.
Angel Gomes, Fred, Scott McTominay, Tahith Chong, Mason Greenwood, Harry Maguire, Nemanja Matic, Phil Jones and assistant manager Mike Phelan were among the first arrivals on Wednesday morning after the Premier League held a vote on clubs' return to training on Monday.
The MEN understands United players are due to arrive at staggered times between 10am and 4pm for their first sessions in small groups. United last trained at Carrington on March 13 and the majority of players reported at Carrington on Tuesday for final checks.
Premier League clubs voted unanimously for players to return to training this week and Luke Shaw, pictured running in a park with Daniel James this month, said the players are 'excited to be getting back to some normality'.
"We've known for around a week that it was a possibility, but United have had to make it the safest possible environment for all the players and the staff," Shaw said.
"We’ll still social distance throughout, we’ll arrive in our training gear and shower when we get home. The rules have to be really strict, but we’re obviously all going to stick to them just to make sure things run as smoothly and safely as possible.
"I think we’re all determined to do things properly because we’re all looking forward to getting back on a proper pitch! Running down at the park is okay, but obviously it isn't ideal.
"We have to do our work, keep fit and it’ll be nice to be around different people and see the boys again for a bit longer. It’s a massive step forward to get on the same training pitch as each other."
"We’re all really excited to be getting back to some normality and we’re all going to do everything we possibly can to make sure our training is as safe as it can be."
United players were allocated time-slots to arrive at Carrington on Sunday to be tested for COVID-19. Players are forbidden from contact training and must maintain social distancing.
The Premier League has still not settled on a restart date and there are 92 fixtures left to be played this season.
