Manchester United players arrive for training after Aston Villa draw

Manchester United's players reported for training bright and early on Monday morning following Sunday's disappointing draw with Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

United sit ninth in the Premier League after 14 games, with just four wins and 18 points on the board going into a crucial period in the season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rested the vast majority of his senior players for last week's Europa League game against Astana with the intention of keeping them fresh for a run of three Premier League games in six days.

But United were not refreshed at Old Trafford and they are now facing up to the prospect of back-to-back games against Tottenham and Manchester City.

Solskjaer's charges looked sullen as they arrived at Carrington to begin preparing for two crunch fixtures and many of them were wrapped up warm in their cars after temperatures dipped as low as minus five degrees in parts of Manchester overnight.

Photographers stationed outside the club's training complex observed as the lock on the gates at Carrington had to be cut due to it having frozen over in the harsh conditions.

United have taken the lead in each of their last three matches but gone on to lose or draw all of them and Solskjaer bemoaned his side's failure to see the game out on Sunday.

"We are a young team," Solskjaer said. "Probably the youngest team in the league, and that's not an excuse for us to not see games out and not win games we are winning, because we put ourselves in that position.

"What we see then is to get two or three goal leads, so disappointed today we conceded straight away after getting the lead and then the game became more end to end than it should have been, if you can control the game winning, you can control the tempo and we weren't able to.

"Today we created chances to be stood there, three yards away from goal and just tap it in. Dan [James] created some chances down the right and Juan [Mata] as well. I've said it a few times, we've got players who score worldies, but get yourself those four or five extra goals, it will give us points and it will give them confidence.

"But we're working on this. it's not like they stand outside the box because they don't think the ball's coming. So could've been a couple of tap-ins."
