Manchester United player set to be recalled from loan

Manchester United are set to recall Joel Pereira from his loan spell at Hearts following the conclusion of the Scottish Premiership season.

Pereira experienced a torrid time at Tynecastle which saw him concede 43 goals in 25 games as Hearts were relegated to the second division.

The United loanee was dropped for what turned out to be the final four league matches of the season after a run of form which saw him keep just one clean sheet in his last 14 games for the club.

Pereira is now expected to return to United after the conclusion of the season and will have to wait until the conclusion of the Premier League season before a decision is made on his future.

The 23-year-old is contracted to United until next summer with the option of an additional year, but the season which was supposed to define him has only seen him fall further down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Pereira, who was tipped to become Portugal's No.1 goalkeeper by Jose Mourinho, will likely find himself behind David de Gea, Dean Henderson and Sergio Romero if he remains at United into next season, while Lee Grant and Nathan Bishop are also on the books.

The SPFL announced on Monday the 2019/20 season in Scotland has been concluded with immediate effect following consultation with all 12 top-flight clubs.

Final season placings have been determined by points per game in league matches played to 13 March 2020 by each club, a decision which means Celtic are crowned champions and Hearts have been relegated.
