Manchester United player Scott McTominay spotted on crutches after injury vs Newcastle

Manchester United appear to have suffered an injury blow after Scott McTominay was spotted leaving Old Trafford on crutches after the win against Newcastle.

The midfielder was involved in a collision with Matty Longstaff in the opening few minutes of the 4-1 win against Steve Bruce's side on Boxing Day but appeared to run off the knock as he managed to last for the rest of the half after wincing following the challenge.

McTominay has been one of United's best performers this season and has stepped up for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side during Paul Pogba's spell on the sidelines through injury. But he is likely to have to sit out at least the next game against Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday having being withdrawn at the break on Thursday.

Pogba replaced the Scotland international at half time and McTominay was seen leaving the ground on crutches after the game.

McTominay has been a regular starter for United this season but Solskjaer may have to look elsewhere for the game against Burnley. Pogba should be available for selection having completed the second half without issue against Newcastle.

Many expected the France international to start on Thursday night but Solskjaer said before kick off he was not yet ready for 90 minutes after only just recovering from injury.

"Paul (Pogba) it's too early to demand too much of him. He's worked really hard but then it's been a long lay off," Solskjaer told MUTV. "We'll have to drip feed him in and gradually play him more and more."
