Manchester United player Scott McTominay lifts the lid on why he wants Jose Mourinho "to lose" with Tottenham

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has stated he wants Jose Mourinho to lose with Tottenham, despite his positive relationship with his former boss.

The Scotland midfielder was a key player during Mourinho's spell at Old Trafford, being named manager's Player of the Year in 2018.

His relationship with the Portuguese boss has been well documented but there is no room for compassion in the industry, as McTominay stated he wants Spurs to lose matches due to their competitive rivalry with United.

"Me and Jose got on really well. I feel like that is common knowledge now and everyone knows that," he told Stadium Astro.

"I've got nothing but positive things to say about Jose Mourinho. He's not my manager at the minute and obviously Ole is amazing as well, so they are two people I've got to thank a lot for.

"But he's the manager of Tottenham, I want him to lose now. That's the way it is, it's the dog eat dog world of football."

Mourinho's return to Old Trafford this season ended in a triumphant 6-1 victory for Spurs, who have impressed this season in their push for the title.

United and McTominay will have their opportunity for revenge in April when they travel to north London to tackle Spurs in the reverse fixture.
