Manchester United player ratings: Juan Mata great and Fernandes crucial vs Copenhagen

Sergio Romero

Rarely called into drastic action as he kept his place after last week's win over LASK. Copenhagen's best chances were blocked. 6

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Took a heavy blow to the head early on and it seemed to shake him. Uncharacteristically lost a sliding tackle but brilliantly denied Bryan Oviedo. 6

Eric Bailly

Made a couple of key blocks to thwart Copenhagen in the first-half but his second-half booking meant he was walking a tightrope and Victor Lindelof came on for him. 6

Harry Maguire

Blocked just in the nick of time to spare Fred's blushes and was booked for a cynical foul after half-time. 6

Brandon Williams

Executed a goal-saving header in his own area but reluctant to get into the opponent's area and struggled in the second-half. 5

Fred

Carelessly let Copenhagen in for their best chance. Not helped by being used in a role he is not suited to but was improving until substituted. 6

Paul Pogba

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a beeline for him during the first drinks break to pass quicker but Pogba was nowhere near his optimum. 5

Bruno Fernandes

Not at the totemic level United have been used to and was unlucky with a shot that bounced onto the upright and then stepped up to score another penalty. 7

Mason Greenwood

Thought he had his 18th goal of the season but was ruled offside and hit the post in the second-half. Harshly substituted for extra-time. 6

Marcus Rashford

Another poor performance since the season restarted. Had enough football to shed the ring rust and lucky not to come off. 4

Anthony Martial

Nigh-on anonymous in the first-half and superbly denied by 'keeper Karl-Johan Johnsson late in regulation time and almost danced his way to scoring a 90th minute winner. Won a penalty. 7

Subs

Nemanja Matic

Offered balance as a specialist defensive midfielder. 6

Victor Lindelof

Calm on the ball. 6

Juan Mata

Had a major impact with his creativity. 8

Jesse Lingard

Came on to freshen up the attack. 5
