Manchester United player ratings vs Istanbul Basaksehir: Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Juan Mata bad

Dean Henderson

Helpless for the first two goals and would have been justified in literally butting heads with some teammates. 5

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Pointlessly pondered in the final third and it led to the opener. Nowhere to be seen for Basaksehir's second and his service was poor. 3

Axel Tuanzebe

Struggled against the wily Demba Ba but was not helped by Harry Maguire leaving him isolated. Got booked and was substituted at half-time. 4

Harry Maguire

Claimed United have a 'lot of leaders' but they were rudderless. Maguire went rogue in what was a borderline dereliction of duty. 3

Luke Shaw

AWOL for Edin Visca's strike and it is not the first time Shaw has been caught high upfield. Crossed for Martial to score. 4

Donny van de Beek

Started well but faded after Ba struck, though so did the whole United side. Withdrawn for Paul Pogba 15 minutes into the second-half. 4

Nemanja Matic

Inexplicably abandoned his post to let Ba in one-on-one and lacked discipline. Moved to centre-back for the second-half. 3

Juan Mata

Feebly robbed of the ball and Basaksehir made it 2-0. Started the second-half but only lasted 15 minutes before making way. 3

Marcus Rashford

Too selfish too often with the ball and did not make Rafael da Silva look like a United reject. Never got going. 3

Bruno Fernandes

Profligate with the ball again and played Mata into trouble prior to Visca's finish. Having too many off days and nights. 3

Anthony Martial

Did little until he was left unmarked to steer in Shaw's cross. Never built on it in the second-half. 5

Subs

Scott McTominay

Okay without ever affecting the play. 5

Paul Pogba

Had barely any impact. 4

Edinson Cavani

Waited for service but hardly got it. 4

Mason Greenwood

Offered another outlet. 4

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Athletic at the back. 5

Manager

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Started a team good enough to win, only United had no defensive organisation. His half-time change was perplexing and the substitutions had little or no impact. 4
