Man United player ratings vs RB Leipzig: David de Gea poor but Paul Pogba decent

David de Gea

Helpless for the first two goals on his return to the team and failed to instil any confidence among those in front of him. 3

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Angelino ghosted past him so often he must have been wearing an invisibility cloak. Wan-Bissaka doesn't like attacking and didn't like defending. 2

Victor Lindelof

Overwhelmed by Leipzig's intensity and only looked comfortable during the game's calmer periods. Booked in the second-half and substituted. 4

Harry Maguire

Maguire was defensive of United's defending pre-match and if only he was as defensive on the pitch. Overrun by Leipzig's quick forwards. Might be credited with the second goal. 3

Luke Shaw

Swamped on his return to the side in a back three and the rustiness was punished by Leipzig. Also got booked. 4

Alex Telles

Committed the same mistake as Wan-Bissaka for the second goal and was substituted at half-time. 3

Scott McTominay

Tried to get United going in the first-half to little avail. Stayed on to balance out the midfield. 5

Nemanja Matic

A risky selection that backfired before the second-minute mark. The inclusion of Matic over Donny van de Beek and Paul Pogba must have lifted Leipzig. 3

Bruno Fernandes

Isolated without another midfield foil and quickly became frustrated amid United's porous defending. One of the more alert players and unlucky to hit the crossbar with a free-kick but scored a penalty. 7

Marcus Rashford

Had enough efforts to harm Leipzig and his running had them on the back foot but he never properly tested the goalkeeper. 5

Mason Greenwood

There were some virtuoso pieces of skill from Greenwood and though he did not score he is undeniably back on form. 6

Subs

Donny van de Beek

Immediately offered another attacking outlet and gave United more purpose. 6

Paul Pogba

Leaped imperiously to force in the second goal off Maguire. Better than most teammates. 7

Brandon Williams

Helped push United higher up the pitch. 6

Axel Tuanzebe

A strange late arrival but his speed helped. 6

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

A stranger late arrival. 5

Manager

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

The formation was understandable but certain personnel gave United a negative look, invited Leipzig onto them and they were hammered. 3
