Manchester United cruised beyond Brighton and Hove Albion with a simple 3-0 victory at the Amex on Wednesday night. Here's how the players rated:
Dean Henderson
Solid save from Jahanbakhsh in the first half and en even better save in the second half to deny Trossard. Doing what he needs to do. 7
Diogo Dalot
Solid enough. Given room to break into as Mata drifted inside but had few options when in possession as a result. 6
Victor Lindelof
Loose in possession at the start of both halves and made a mistake that almost let Brighton in during the second half. 5
Eric Bailly
Made a superb sliding block early in the second half and was positionally excellent all night. Has to be putting Lindelof under pressure for a start alongside Maguire in the league. 8
Brandon Williams
Got forward well and picked out some smart passes, but often looked to cut back on to his right foot. Untroubled defensively. 6
Scott McTominay
Took his goal well and was a vocal presence in midfield, barking out orders throughout. 7
Fred
United’s best midfield presser and he showed that again when Brighton tried to play out from the back. 6
Donny van de Beek
Wasn’t heavily involved until creating Mata’s second goal with a stylish flick. That showed how dangerous he can be in the advanced role. 7
Juan Mata
An outstanding performance. Created the first goal and scored the second, although he was involved in the build-up three or four times as well. 8
Daniel James
Drifted out of the game after a bright start. Played in his favoured position on the left but didn’t find it easy. 5
Odion Ighalo
Lost his balance when presented with a good first-half chance and didn’t offer much of a presence in attack. 5
Subs
Paul Pogba
Planted a header wide when he could have scored but added some poise in midfield when United were under pressure. Fortuitously found the net with a deflected free-kick that was going wide. 7
Marcus Rashford
Stretched the play in a centre forward pitch which immediately gave United more space to play in. 6
Jesse Lingard
Brief cameo, didn't have much time to influence proceedings. 6
Manager
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Made changes once again but wasn't afraid to use a strong bench to go and kill the game. 7
