David de Gea
Denied Callum Hudson-Odoi and Antonio Rudiger with fine saves in a first-half Chelsea dominated. Key to another positive result. 8
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Made a couple of mistakes that led to chances and had to be told where to stand. Too far away to hear when he gave away the penalty.. 4
Victor Lindelof
Let Callum Hudson-Odoi in early on but recovered and had a steady afternoon without Harry Maguire or Raphael Varane. 7
Eric Bailly
Back on form after his disastrous derby appearance last month. The most impressive of United's defenders until one late transgression. 7
Alex Telles
Erred once in the first-half but the attack led to nothing. Otherwise, a disciplined first league start since May for the Brazilian. 7
Scott McTominay
Pugnacious as ever and unfortunate to be booked by the officious Anthony Taylor. Little impact at either end. 6
Fred
Improved as the game developed after a tepid first-half and offered support in the couinter-attacks. Squandered a late chance. 6
Nemanja Matic
It was perhaps not a coincidence he was the most accomplished of the midfielders back on his old patch. Disciplined reading of the game. 7
Jadon Sancho
Did not get enough of the ball in the first-half and when he robbed Jorginho of it he kept cool to put United ahead. Oddly hooked first. 7
Bruno Fernandes
Michael Carrick put the wrong Portuguese on the bench. Fernandes' hoik led to the breakthrough but required assistance from Jorginho. 3
Marcus Rashford
Fashioned a good opening for Sancho in the first-half but otherwise quiet and fortunate not to come off ahead of Sancho. Eventually replaced by Jesse Lingard. 5
Subs
Cristiano Ronaldo
Saw little of the ball. 5
Jesse Lingard
Energised the attack. 5
Donny van de Beek
Late cameo. N/A
Manager - Michael Carrick
No justification for dropping Ronaldo and United's lead was larcenous. Got it wrong taking Sancho off first for Ronaldo. Players' resilience obvious as they clung on. 6
