Man Utd player ratings vs Perth Glory: Paul Pogba and Dan James good

Manchester United started their pre-season tour of Australia with a 2-0 victory over Perth Glory at the Optus Stadium. Here's how MEN Sport's chief United writer Samuel Luckhurst rated the players:

Sergio Romero

Cocked up a pass but otherwise had absolutely nothing to do. Just as well he wore leg-warmers. 6

Diogo Dalot

Got forward enough and provided natural width without ever really effecting the play. 6

Phil Jones

Showed composure, albeit against maybe the most impotent attack he will ever face in his whole career. 6

Axel Tuanzebe

Slotted back into the defence seamlessly. Could have done with more testing opponents. 6

Ashley Young

Came close to scoring with a well-struck free-kick. Was still prone to the hackneyed lofted passes that seldom worked. 6

Nemanja Matic

There was the odd nice turn but he was pedestrian in a pedestrian game. Did not angle enough passes forwards. 5

Jesse Lingard

Had his goalbound effort tipped over by Liam Reddy and was bright throughout the first-half. 6

Andreas Pereira

Struggled to influence the game from midfield and the tempo in that area of the pitch was not quick enough in general. 5

Tahith Chong

There was a late rally but he failed to stamp his seal on the game and his wayward positioning congested the central area. 5

Daniel James

An auspicious start. Speed was striking and he copped three fouls inside the first 25 minutes. Faded a bit but overall an encouraging bow. 7

Anthony Martial

Has seldom convinced as a centre forward since his first season with the club and failed to do so again. 5

Subs

Joel Pereira

Claimed the ball confidently at times. 6

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Solid defensively but could have been more adventurous. 6

Chris Smalling

Steady but his first touch has not improved. 5

Marcos Rojo

Slapdash at times. 5

Luke Shaw

Came off injured. 5

Scott McTominay

Did okay. 6

Paul Pogba

Improved United. 7

Angel Gomes

Some positive runs. 6

Juan Mata

Incisive passing. 7

Mason Greenwood

Threatened early on and could have scored. 6

Marcus Rashford

Tidy goal. 7

James Garner

Fine goal. 7
