Manchester United player Paul Pogba praises Jesse Lingard

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba praised his teammate Jesse Lingard whilediscussing the 2017 Europa League final triumph over Ajax.

The pair caught up via video chat during the recently imposed lockdown and reminisced about their roles in the win.

Goals from Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan secured the victory for United to secure their first ever title in the competition.

Lingard had the chance to make it 3-0 after entering the field as a substitute but was unable to convert after racing clear on the counter-attack.

The England international has a knack for netting in finals and was disappointed not to increase his tally in the win against the Dutch side.

"I remember it like it was yesterday," Lingard said.

"I think it was [Davinson] Sanchez chasing me down and I was one-on-one with the 'keeper and he's made a last ditch challenge as I was about to shoot.

"It was one of those things. I would have loved to have scored.

"Obviously, I wanted that one in the bank as well but we move on. We won the trophy and that was the main thing."

Pogba smiled as Lingard spoke and praised the impact of his teammate during the big occasions.

The Frenchman added: "He knows. He knows. He's made for this.

"He's always banging in goals.

"He's always been banging in goals anyway.

"It was a very good game for all of us.

"Everyone played well and we had a very strong performance."
