Former Manchester United star Patrice Evra has revealed the opponent he found most annoying to play against during his eight-year stint with the club.
Evra, who won five Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League with United, faced the game's most talented players during his spell but has picked a surprising name when asked for his toughest.
''The toughest one? It’s not the toughest one but the most annoying one was James Milner," Evra revealed in a special Q&A session with Manchester United fans.
“People always expect me to say another one but [it's] James Milner and the reason was because he was always defending more than myself.
“I’m someone, I’m an attacking defender, so he frustrated me so much because he was following me everywhere.
“Even if I was going in the toilet, he was going to follow me. I would say the most annoying is James Milner.”
Milner, who recently celebrated an impressive 21 years in the professional game, still continues to perform at the highest level with Liverpool and faced Evra while playing for Manchester City, Aston Villa, Newcastle and for England against France.
Starting out his career as a midfielder, Milner has been utilised as a full-back in recent years and continues to show a terrific work ethic, having racked up a total of 569 Premier League appearances to date.
Despite his concerns over facing Milner, Evra was also sure to underline the confidence he had in his own ability, claiming he never doubted himself whilst on the pitch.
“The best player I played against was Patrice (Evra). I was my worst enemy because I never feared anyone,'' he began.
“I was just like when I wasn’t in a good day, I knew anyone could beat me. But, most of the time, I was in a good day.”
