Manchester United player Luke Shaw gives verdict on Premier League season and possible Liverpool FC title win

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw believes the Premier League season should be declared null and void if it can't be finished - which would deny Liverpool lifting their first title for 30 years.

Jurgen Klopp's side are currently 25 points clear at the top of the table, requiring just two wins from their remaining nine fixtures in order to claim the trophy.

The Premier League season has been put on hold due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic with the Football Association still in discussion over the best course of action going forward.

Games could be rescheduled for later this year but there is a real threat the season could be cancelled.

Shaw believes the only option is to scrap the league and start again later in the year if it cannot be finished, which would deny Liverpool the chance to be crowned champions.

"Scrap it and start again," he said during a Combat Corona Twitch FIFA competition.

"If we can’t carry it on it’s got to be void."

Playing the remainder of the season behind closed doors is believed to be another option for the Premier League but the England international believes fixtures shouldn't be played without fans.

Shaw feels games must only be played when it is safe for supporters to attend.

He added: "Fans are so important. You realise it even more [now].

“I think the sport is for fans really, do you know what I mean? I think if you don’t have fans, and you don’t play in front of fans, it just doesn’t feel right.

"Especially on matchday, the fans are always amazing and always help the team. Whether it’s home or even away, our fans are always brilliant and I feel like they’re always there with us.”
