Manchester United player Luke Shaw details relationship with Man City's Raheem Sterling

Club tensions have often hit England hard at previous major international tournaments, but there is a completely different feeling this time around.

Just as they did under Gareth Southgate at the World Cup in Russia three years ago, players from Manchester City, Manchester United and various other Premier League rivals have bandied together for the benefit of the national team.

Normally rivals at club level, Luke Shaw and Raheem Sterling have quickly developed a prosperous relationship on England's left flank under Southgate.

Of the Three Lions' eight goals at Euro 2020, the pair have played a role in six of them — including against Germany in which Shaw set up Sterling for the opener in the last-16.

And now in-form United left-back Shaw has discussed his relationship with Sterling, with whom he wasn't very familiar before this summer.

"Before this tournament, I hadn't played with him much, but in the games now I just feel like it's normal," Shaw told Uefa.com.

"I understand his movements, where he's going to go, when he goes inside and when he stays outside."

The United full-back says the atmosphere in the England camp is much different from when he last at a major international tournament — the 2014 World Cup when the Three Lions were dumped out at the group stage.

He added: "Now the group is together so much; I've been saying it's like a big family. Everyone gets on really well, we all want the best for each other, we all push each other in training.

"This experience has been the best and I don't want it to end. I want it to keep on going and, hopefully, we can get that final push.

"It would mean everything [to reach the final]. I think I can speak on behalf of the whole squad that it would potentially be the best day of our lives and, obviously, that's what we want to push for.

"We know we've got one more hurdle left. It's obviously [going to be] a very tough one, but I feel like we're going to give everything that we've got to try and reach that final and make the country believe again."
