Manchester United player Juan Mata taking coaching badges

Juan Mata has started his coaching badges as he prepares for life after his professional playing career.

The Manchester United playmaker recently had his contract extended by another year and the 2021-22 season is expected to be Mata's last in the Premier League.

Mata, 33, joined United from Chelsea in 2014 and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has repeatedly lauded the Spaniard's experience.

United have offered Mata an ambassadorial role once his playing time at the club comes to an end and, like teammate Nemanja Matic, Mata is preparing for a possible coaching career.

"I'm starting to do some courses. I'm doing a management course and also coaching badges," Mata told club media. "It's nice to do things in your time off, when you become over 30 it's important for football players to start thinking about what to do next.

"Of course, I want to play for as long as I can because there's nothing better than playing football but you have to start to be ready and do something."
