Manchester United player Edinson Cavani backed for Boca Juniors transfer amid contract doubts

Edinson Cavani has been backed to join Boca Juniors.

The 34-year-old's future at Old Trafford is uncertain, with his current contract due to expire at the end of the campaign.

While there is an option to extend his deal beyond June, that agreement needs to be decided on by both parties and the player's father recently cast doubt on his United future by claiming that his son wants to leave at the end of the season.

Cavani doused the flames with a follow-up Instagram post that stated his 'pride' at wearing the famous red shirt.

However, United are also understood to have doubts over Cavani's fitness record since he moved to Manchester.

And one of his former international team-mates, Sebastian Abreu, thinks a move to Boca is on the cards.

In an interview with Radio Colonia, he said: "From the conditions, I do see it, but I don't know if at the moment.

"If Cavani goes to Boca, it will work. He will have to adapt quickly to the world of Argentine football, but at a football level, it will undoubtedly work, and it will make a difference."

After making his name in Italy with Serie A clubs Palermo and Napoli, the frontman moved to French Ligue 1 side PSG for around £55million in 2013 - and went on to score a record 138 goals in 171 league starts.

Cavani then arrived at Old Trafford on a free transfer ahead of the 2020/21 season - with six goals to show from 18 appearances in the Premier League so far.

Amid question marks over his future and fitness concerns, the Uruguayan has only featured once in the last month, though, for 76 minutes against Crystal Palace on March 3.
