Manchester United player Dean Henderson tests positive for Covid-19

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is still recovering from Covid-19.

Henderson, 24, reported for pre-season training three weeks ago but is understood to have tested positive for Covid-19 later that week and missed the friendlies with Derby County, Queens Park Rangers and Brentford.

When approached for confirmation of Henderson's positive test by the Manchester Evening News two weeks ago, United declined to confirm it.

United said in a statement: “Dean Henderson will miss Manchester United’s Scotland training camp while he continues his recovery from prolonged fatigue after contracting a COVID-19 infection three weeks ago.

“He is expected to be training again soon.”

Henderson is understood to have attended England’s European Championship final defeat at Wembley, where ticketless fans forced entry into the stadium.

The MEN reported United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was edging towards Henderson as his number one goalkeeper at the start of the season.

However, Henderson's situation could see David de Gea start in the season opener against Leeds United on August 14. De Gea returned to United for pre-season training on Monday.

New signing Tom Heaton has started in all three pre-season friendlies so far. United host Everton at Old Trafford in their last scheduled friendly on Saturday.
